Join our internship program and jumpstart your career in public service with a paid City internship. Gain hands-on experience across one of the many diverse departments within the City of Tallahassee.
Interns work under the direct supervision and receive on-the-job training in one of the City's departments-from Underground Utilities to Aviation. Assignments are designed to build practical skills, foster professional development, and provide insight into public sector careers. Work is reviewed through assigned projects and process evaluations.
Here's what your role could look like, depending on the area of assignment.
* Aviation:
Assist with operations reports and analyses and contribute to projects that keep things flying smoothly.
* Engineering:
Support design teams, help analyze system performance and assist with testing and technical documentation.
* Information Technology:
Assist in troubleshooting, data management, and software testing-or even contribute to system upgrades.
* Communications:
Help craft messaging, support digital content creation, and track outreach performance metrics.
* Urban Planning:
Contribute to mapping and zoning projects, research urban trends, and help visualize data for future developments.
* Transit Administration:
Analyze ridership data, assist improving route performance and overall transit efficiency.
* Environmental Services:
Help track sustainability efforts, assist in field studies, and support green initiatives around the city.
* Building Permitting:
Organize permit data, support inspection scheduling, and assist in streamlining the permitting process.
* Public Safety:
Help compile performance reports, track response data, and support safety programs that serve the community.
* Policy Writing:
Research current policies, help draft proposals, and support the development of forward-thinking civic strategies.

Minimum Training & Experience
Undergraduate Intern
* Must be enrolled as a student at a college or university and have completed at least 45 semester hours of course work; or
* Must be enrolled as a student at a technical/vocational school and have completed at least half of required course hours.
Graduate Intern
* Must possess a bachelor's degree and be currently enrolled in coursework for a master's degree or higher in the field in which the position is assigned.
