Black & Veatch’s Infrastructure Advisory Business provides a portfolio of solutions focused on the asset lifecycle, including Asset Management & Operations & Maintenance, Infrastructure Technology, Cybersecurity Solutions, Program Enablement, Strategy, Planning & Optimization, and Transactions. In this role you will be part of the Delivery Team supporting Solutions.
You will be working with Infrastructure Advisory’s Strategy, Planning & Optimization Solution Portfolio to deliver a wide range of projects and solutions, including integrated resource plans, resource adequacy and reliability assessments, capacity expansion and production cost modeling, portfolio optimization and asset investment planning, market studies, and other related generation and transmission planning efforts.
They OpportunityBlack & Veatch is seeking an exceptional professional to join our Infrastructure Advisory organization as a principal consultant and technical lead to deliver integrated resource management projects for our clients, with a focus on market modeling through platforms like PLEXOS and Encompass. By joining Infrastructure Advisory, a consultant group that advises clients across the infrastructure lifecycle, you will be joining a team of dedicated professionals who are aligned with Black & Veatch’s Purpose, Building a World of Difference.
Inthis role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Deliver innovative solutions to address our client’s most pressing issues, including aging infrastructure, portfolio optimization, asset investments, and improving data management and decision making.
- Support the Strategy, Planning & Optimization Solution through execution of energy market modeling (e.g., PLEXOS, EnCompass) to inform client strategy, integrated resource planning, and investment decisions.
- Translate client objectives, regulatory requirements, and market assumptions into actionable long‑term resource plans to support their evolving energy needs.

- Lead high complexity consulting tasks in support of project delivery, including:
- Integrated resource planning (IRP) support, including scenario design, assumptions development, and documentation.
- Energy market modeling execution using tools such as PLEXOS and EnCompass (production cost, capacity expansion, and portfolio studies).
- Resource adequacy, reliability, and planning reserve margin assessments; evaluation of capacity accreditation and ELCC where applicable.
- Portfolio optimization and investment planning analyses (generation, storage, transmission, demand‑side resources), including sensitivities on load, fuel, policy, and technology costs.
- Model QA/QC, calibration, and results validation; develop repeatable workflows, templates, and clear client‑ready exhibits.
- Serve as a technical manager or director on strategy and planning projects. Manage tasks and assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Provide technical subject matter expertise on projects, apply best practices and recommend innovative solutions to clients.
- Provide thought leadership and be recognized as a company/industry subject matter expert. Contribute through presentations, publications, participation in regional/national conferences, and on professional society committees.
- Lead client meetings and workshops, develop presentations and communicate effectively with clients.
- Support business development activities, and lead the development of scopes, schedules and budget.
