Position: ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST III - 37020735

ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST III -

This intermediate environmental position acts as a technical contributor by performing professional specialized work on water quality/quantity aspects of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), Mixing Zone Limitations, and/or other model development activities focused on surface and groundwater resources. This work includes investigation of the behavior, fate, and impacts of water quality parameters on surface and ground water quality, preparing and interpreting water quality reports, and assisting water quality studies with state and federal agencies.

Participates in other activities including TMDL development, intensive field surveys, Basin Management Action Plan (BMAP) development support, and other special projects as required. This includes assisting with the development of a watershed approach in evaluating point and nonpoint contributions to ecological systems. Assists with the reviews and evaluations of Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) and project plans, Minimum Flow and Level (MFL), 319(h) and other grant proposals, and consultant contract scope of works related to TMDL development and restoration plans.

Supports technical review of special water quality projects and biological assessments. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical processes as they relate to water quality and the aquatic environment. Knowledge and experience in the use of various methods for assessment of surface water quality/quantity data, including statistical analysis, graphics preparation and use of state-of-the-art mathematical modeling. Skill using MS Office products to prepare, write and edit technical reports. Skill in collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting scientific or technical data.

Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to solve problems and make decisions. Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and respectful manner. Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Ability to work effectively and constructively as a part of a team and independently.

At least six years of verifiable related experience in engineering, engineering sciences, chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, environmental policy, computer science, or public health. A post-secondary degree in engineering, engineering sciences, chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, environmental policy, computer science, or public health from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required six years of experience on a year-for-year basis.

A valid driver's license. Occasional overnight travel. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.
