Job Description
This position, within the Office of Court Services' Policy Section, provides research support and technical assistance to the Commissions on District Court of Appeal and Trial Court Performance and Accountability. This involves planning and conducting statewide research projects aimed at improving court operations, including court reporting, court interpreting, expert witnesses, and mediation services. The Florida Supreme Court utilizes the commissions to inform and develop judicial branch policies affecting the administration of justice.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
* Design, collect, and analyze data and information to measure the effectiveness of district and trial court operations, policies, procedures, statutes, etc.
* Document findings and best practices and identify recommendations to improve court operations.
* Prepare and present various documents, including charts, issue summaries, and reports.
* Respond to time-sensitive matters and ensure projects are completed according to specified time frames.
* Lead commission and workgroup meetings, including preparing agendas and materials.
* Provide outreach and technical assistance to various court systems and stakeholders.
Education and Training Guidelines
Education:
Refers to job specific training and education that is recommended for entry into the position. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, information technology, business management, public or business administration, social science, or a closely related field.
Experience:
Refers to the amount of related work experience that is recommended for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the required tasks. Additional relevant education may substitute for the recommended experience on a year-for-year basis, excluding supervisory experience.
Five years of related work experience. Preference may be given to those individuals with professional experience conducting statistical analysis.
Competencies
* Ability to serve as a project leader and apply principles and techniques of project planning including supervising and directing the work of court analysts and support staff on a variety of court projects.
* Ability to design, employ, and direct research initiatives to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of court policies and programs.
* Ability to interpret and apply data to policy decisions as intended.
* Ability to produce written reports and make oral presentations explaining policy and research initiatives to judges and other court professionals.
* Knowledge of implementing and managing court programs including the formulation of statewide standards.
* Ability to conduct outreach and provide support to Supreme Court Committees and State Courts System stakeholders.
* Ability to always exercise tact and diplomacy when interacting with judges, trial court administrators, clerks of court, legislative staff, and other state agencies.
* Ability to take initiative and show ownership of work products.
* Ability to travel occasionally.
