Position: CORRECTIONAL SERVICES CONSULTANT

Correctional Services Consultant

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Central Office in the Office of the Secretary/Legislative Affairs/Victim Services. The purpose of the Correctional Sentence Technician is to compassionately coordinate, support, and advocate for victims by managing victim-related information, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation, facilitating timely notifications, and promoting victim-centered services and communication within the Department. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job duties include working with others to create, review, and update policies and procedures focused on helping victims, analyzing laws and regulations about victim services and recommending ways to improve how the Department supports victims, managing and updating victim information in databases like CDC and VINE, responding to victims and other stakeholders with empathy, providing and participating in training about victim services, and supporting coworkers to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment.

Requirements include five (5) years of corrections experience in auditing, coding, and verifying inmate sentence data, counseling, probation and parole, rehabilitative services, or corrections administrative experience; postsecondary education in criminal justice, criminology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience; and professional experience in a position providing direct services or advocacy for crime victims.

A master's degree with a major course of study in criminal justice or one of the social or behavioral sciences can substitute on a year-for-year basis of the required experience.

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, criminology, or a closely related field.

Additional information includes a background screening requirement and employment eligibility for U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. The Florida Department of Corrections does not currently support H-1B Visa Sponsorship.
