Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate (24052)
Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applicants for the Postdoctoral Research Associate vacancy.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will work on a project to study the role of microglial LRRK2 (PARK8) in manganese (Mn)-induced neurotoxicity and the contributing role of 14-3-3 to LRRK2-Mn toxicity mechanisms. He or she should have extensive experience in molecular biology, histology, microdialysis, and genetic mouse models;
Assist the principal investigator with research projects and extramural funding, mentor students in the laboratory, design experiments, perform bench work, and prepare manuscripts. The position offers exceptional opportunities for publishing, training in advanced methodologies, and career development within an interdisciplinary research environment.

Research Associate independently interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates research assignments under minimal supervision;
The project focuses on the roles of neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in neurotoxicity induced by neurotoxins, such as manganese, and the molecular/cellular mechanisms involved, as well as gene-environment interactions, with a particular emphasis on the LRRK2-Mn interaction;
The experiments will involve genetic mouse models and brain surgery, as well as in vitro cell lines and primary cell cultures; and explore subject areas relevant to the main projects and train junior lab members as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in biomedical Science or an M.D. degree is required. Knowledge and experience in neuroscience and neurotoxicity are preferred, and a publication record is required.

Experience with handling laboratory animals and breeding genetic mouse models is preferred.

Recommended Competencies

Comprehensive knowledge of research methods and procedures to perform the research project;

Ability to generate new ideas and methods and to conduct laboratory testing and analysis in a timely manner;

Effective verbal and written communication skills;

Ability to safely handle biohazardous materials and confidential data;

Capability to interact effectively with laboratory and other department personnel;

Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in the area of expertise;

Knowledge of research methodology, principles, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Experiences with general molecular biology techniques (cloning, transfections, mutations, promoter assays, qRT-PCR, ELISA, Western blot), microdialysis, and brain immunohistochemistry techniques are preferred.

Experience with RNA-seq, confocal microscopy, and mitochondrial assays (e.g., mitophagy flux, fission-fusion dynamics) is also preferred.

Pay Plan

This is a Faculty position.
