We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to manage the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of projects and funding agreements. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, monitoring project costs and budgets, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and contractual requirements.
The ideal candidate has a strong accounting background with experience managing project financials, performing reconciliations, and partnering with operational teams to support sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the financial accounting for assigned projects from setup through completion.
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and expenditures while analyzing budget-to-actual variances.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and cost allocations.
- Perform monthly general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and contractual requirements.
- Prepare project invoices, billing support, and financial reports.
- Partner with project managers to review project financial performance and provide budget guidance.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation and supporting schedules.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience with an emphasis onproject accounting, cost accounting, or contract accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
- Experience preparing financial statements, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
