Senior Accountant

Client Overview:

Our client is a well-established nonprofit/not-for-profit organization seeking a Senior Accountant to join their collaborative Finance team. Salary/Hourly Rate:

$75k - $85k Annually

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to serve as a key member of the Finance team and a trusted partner to the Controller. This role will be instrumental in maintaining the organization's financial integrity by owning the month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, audit support, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, adaptable, and thrives in a collaborative, fully remote environment.

Responsibilities of the Senior Accountant:

* Perform and review monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.

* Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.

* Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

* Assist with preparation of financial statements, reporting packages, and annual budgets.

* Monitor budget-to-actual results and investigate variances.

* Support annual external audits by preparing schedules and documentation.

* Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.

* Support accounting process improvements and system implementations.

* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.

* Serve as backup for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.

* Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments on financial matters.

* Assist with foundation accounting, affiliate/intercompany reconciliations, royalty accounting, sales & use tax, and VAT reporting where applicable.

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:

* 5 - 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

* Strong full-cycle accounting experience, including month-end and year-end close.

* Experience preparing financial statements and supporting external audits.

* Advanced knowledge of GAAP.

* Sales & Use Tax experience.

* Hands-on Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience.

* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and formulas.

* Experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, Net Suite, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or similar accounting software.

* Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

* Comfortable working independently in a fully remote setting while collaborating across departments.

Preferred Experience /Skills for the Senior Accountant:

* Nonprofit accounting experience.

* Foundation, fund, royalty, or affiliate accounting experience.

* VAT experience.

* CPA or CPA candidate.

* Experience supporting organizations with annual budgets exceeding $15 million.

* Experience participating in ERP implementations or system conversions.

* Technology-savvy with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

Education Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

* Master's degree is preferred.

* CPA or CPA candidate is preferred but not required.
