Comptroller

The Comptroller is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, payroll-related financial processes, cash flow management, and compliance with applicable local, state, federal, tax, audit, and contract-related requirements. This position ensures accurate financial records, supports executive decision-making through timely financial analysis, and helps maintain the organization's financial stability, accountability, and long-term fiscal health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, revenue recognition, cost accounting, billing, collections, and financial reconciliations.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, budget-to-actual reports, and management reporting packages.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure timely, accurate, and complete financial reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures to safeguard company assets and improve accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Manage annual budgeting, financial forecasts, cash flow projections, variance analysis, and long-term financial planning in coordination with executive leadership.
  • Provide financial analysis, recommendations, and decision support to leadership regarding profitability, spending trends, labor utilization, pricing, compensation planning, and operational performance.
  • Monitor company cash flow, banking activity, credit card activity, vendor payments, customer receivables, and other financial transactions to support responsible fiscal management.
  • Oversee payroll-related financial processes, including payroll funding, payroll reporting, payroll period calendars, labor cost reporting, employee salary changes, and financial system maintenance.
  • Support pricing, cost analysis, labor requirements, and financial documentation for federal proposals, contracts, and other business development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal financial reporting requirements, tax obligations, contract requirements, accounting standards, and audit expectations.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation, reviewing financial records, responding to audit inquiries, and implementing corrective actions or process improvements as needed.
  • Review, improve, and document finance-related processes and procedures to support efficiency, audit readiness, accountability, and organizational scalability.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure accounting systems, payroll systems, reporting tools, and supporting documentation are current, reliable, and appropriately controlled.
  • Identify financial risks, reporting issues, accounting discrepancies, and process gaps; recommend and implement practical solutions in partnership with leadership.
  • Perform other finance, accounting, reporting, compliance, and administrative duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting, finance, or controllership experience, including responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, reconciliations, and month-end or year-end close processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, internal controls, financial reporting practices, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and audit preparation.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, payroll systems, Microsoft Excel, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn and maintain accurate data across business systems.
