Senior Payroll Specialist

Payroll Consultant oversees end-to-end payroll processing with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and system optimization within Workday and UKG Pro. This role manages bi-weekly payroll cycles, supports payroll system design and enhancements, responds to employee inquiries, and ensures regulatory and organizational standards are consistently met.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing bi-weekly payroll transactions, including compensation changes, deductions, adjustments, garnishments, and other related payroll activities.
  • Reviewing, auditing, and processing employee timekeeping records within UKG Pro to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with wage and hour regulations.
  • Maintaining and supporting Workday Payroll processes, including identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving payroll issues in a timely manner.
  • Participating in Workday Payroll design, configuration, testing, implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize payroll operations.
  • Coordinating payroll activities for new hires, internal transfers, status changes, and terminations to ensure timely and accurate pay.
  • Preparing and reconciling payroll reports, performing balancing activities, and supporting regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Researching and completing federal, state, and foreign national payroll registration and tax documentation as needed.
  • Preparing manual payroll checks and off-cycle payroll transactions when required.
  • Responding to employee and manager payroll inquiries, providing clear, timely resolutions to payroll-related questions and concerns.
  • Assisting with training and support for department timekeepers and managers on payroll and timekeeping procedures and system use.
  • Maintaining accurate payroll records and documentation while ensuring strict confidentiality and data integrity.
  • Supporting internal and external payroll audits and ensuring compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations, tax rules, and organizational policies.

Essential skills include:

  • 3–5 years of experience in a Senior or managerial-level role working within payroll and Workday.
  • Hands-on experience administering and processing payroll in Workday.
  • Strong Workday experience, including familiarity with configuration, processing, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in end-to-end payroll processing, including garnishments, deductions, adjustments, and off-cycle transactions.
  • Experience reviewing, auditing, and processing timekeeping records, preferably within UKG Pro or similar systems.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax reporting requirements, wage and hour compliance, and payroll best practices.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and system issues.
  • Advanced analytical and reconciliation skills for balancing payroll reports and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Ability to handle confidential payroll information with discretion and maintain high standards of data integrity.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional skills and qualifications include:

  • Experience supporting payroll system implementations, enhancements, configuration, or design is preferred.
  • Background working in a healthcare environment is preferred.
  • Ability to train and support department timekeepers and managers on payroll and timekeeping procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to respond effectively to employee and manager payroll inquiries.
  • Ability to collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives related to Workday Payroll.
  • Interest in opportunities to meet new people and expand professional networks through cross-functional collaboration.

Work environment is on-site at a business office in Temple Terrace. This role operates in a professional office environment with regular interaction with payroll team members, managers, and employees. Work is primarily performed using payroll and HR technologies such as Workday and UKG Pro, along with standard office software and equipment. The environment supports collaboration, relationship-building, and networking across departments.

Job type and location is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.

Pay and benefits range from $40.00 - $65.00/hr benefits may include medical, dental & vision, critical illness, accident, and hospital coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, short and long-term disability, health spending account, transportation benefits, employee assistance program, and time off/leave.

This is a fully onsite position in Tampa, FL.
