The Director of Finance & Accounting is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership over the Company’s accounting and financial functions, with a primary focus on supporting a multi-property real estate portfolio.

This position oversees property accounting, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, internal controls, and financial compliance while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information across the organization. The Director will partner closely with executive leadership, regional and property operations teams, asset management, lenders, and other stakeholders to provide meaningful financial insight and support effective business decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads and oversees the Accounting and Finance Department and its day-to-day operations.
  • Oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions for the Company's portfolio of managed properties and corporate operations.
  • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial statements, general ledgers, and supporting financial records
  • Oversees the monthly accounting close process and ensures financial reporting is completed accurately and timely.
  • Reviews property-level financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, general ledgers, bank reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, bank reconciliations, and other accounting functions.
  • Partners with Operations to monitor property financial performance, identify variances, and address financial or operational concerns.
  • Leads and supports the annual budgeting and forecasting process for properties and corporate operations.
  • Supports financial reporting requirements for ownership groups, investors, lenders, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures compliance with lender requirements and assists with financial reporting associated with debt, escrow accounts, reserves, and other financing obligations.
  • Establishes, maintains, and strengthens accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls designed to protect Company and property assets.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of the financial performance of the Company’s property portfolio and proactively communicates significant trends or concerns to leadership.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and hold team members accountable.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within financial data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and non-financial leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced, multi-property organization.
  • Experience with property management accounting platforms such as Res Man or similar systems is strongly preferred.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience
    , including significant leadership or management experience.
  • Previous experience in multifamily property management, residential real estate, commercial real estate, or a similar multi-entity environment strongly preferred
    .
  • Experience overseeing accounting for multiple properties, entities, or operating locations preferred.
  • Experience with property-level budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, and financial analysis preferred.
  • Experience working with external auditors, lenders, ownership groups, or investors is preferred.
