Used Vehicle Reconditioning Technician - Ferman Chevrolet of Brandon

Ferman Chevrolet of Brandon is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Used Car Reconditioning Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and prepare pre‑owned vehicles for retail sale. This position plays a critical role in ensuring every vehicle meets dealership quality standards, manufacturer specifications, and customer expectations before being displayed on the sales lot.

The ideal candidate possesses strong automotive diagnostic and repair skills, works efficiently in a fast‑paced dealership environment, and is committed to delivering quality workmanship while meeting production timelines.

Description

Ferman Chevrolet of Brandon is a long‑standing automotive dealer that values precision and customer satisfaction. As a Reconditioning Technician, you will perform comprehensive inspections, recommend and execute repairs, complete accurate documentation, and ensure vehicles are retail‑ready. You will also maintain safe shop practices, adhere to dealership and manufacturer protocols, and participate in ongoing technical training.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive mechanical inspections on all incoming used vehicles.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, drivability, steering, suspension, brake, HVAC, and engine concerns.
  • Complete dealership‑approved used vehicle inspection forms accurately.
  • Recommend necessary repairs based on safety, reliability, and retail standards.
  • Perform maintenance services including:
    • Oil and filter changes
    • Fluid services
    • Tune‑ups
    • Battery replacement
    • Belt and hose replacement
    • Cooling system service
    • Brake service
    • Tire replacement and balancing
    • Wheel alignments
  • Repair or replace suspension and steering components.
  • Perform engine and transmission repairs within skill level.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems using manufacturer diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete emissions and drivability repairs as required.
  • Replace worn or damaged components to ensure retail‑ready condition.
  • Verify all repairs through quality control road testing.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and technician notes.
  • Communicate repair recommendations with the Used Car Manager, Service Advisors, and Parts Department.
  • Maintain production schedules to ensure vehicles are available for sale on time.
  • Follow dealership and manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Properly use and maintain shop equipment and specialty tools.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, EPA, and dealership safety regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs.

  • Road test repaired vehicles.
  • Update repair status in dealership management system.
  • Meet daily and weekly production goals.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Automotive technical school education preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of automotive repair experience.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Ability to pass background screening and drug testing in accordance with company policy.
