Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Tampa Bay History Center is seeking a dynamic, public-facing Public Experience Lead to help shape how our stories are experienced—inside the museum and across Tampa Bay.

This role reports to the Director of Education and plays a key part in translating the region’s rich past into engaging, accessible, and memorable experiences for a broad and growing audience.

Working at the intersection of storytelling, public engagement, and community activation, this position focuses on executing high-quality, visitor-facing programs and experiences that extend the History Center’s reach—while ensuring everything is grounded in strong historical thinking and compelling narrative.

What you’ll do
  • Help shape how visitors experience Tampa Bay’s history across exhibitions, programs, and public spaces
  • Execute and support public-facing initiatives, including:
    • History Happy Hours
    • Public programs and talks
    • Pop-ups and off-site activations
    • Collector’s Day and signature events
    • Walking tours
  • Serve as a visible, public-facing representative of the History Center
  • Collaborate closely with Education, Curatorial, Collections, and Marketing & Communications teams
  • Support partnerships with local organizations, historians, and community groups
  • Track program data and prepare regular reports to measure impact and inform decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to activate the museum’s spaces and extend presence along the Riverwalk and across the region
What we’re looking for
  • A strong storyteller with a background in history, public history, museum work, or a related field
  • Someone who thrives when speaking publicly, engaging with media, and working across formats
  • A collaborative, cross-functional thinker who enjoys execution as much as ideas
  • Experience supporting or delivering public-facing programs, content, or experiences
  • Curiosity, energy, and a desire to connect people with place
Why this role matters

At the Tampa Bay History Center, we believe history should be visible, relevant, and deeply connected to the community. This role is central to that vision—ensuring our work is not only well-researched, but actively experienced, shared, and felt by the public.

Schedule and compensation
  • Salary range: $65,000-$70,000
  • Full-time, on-site position with evening or weekend work for special programs
  • Standard office hours with some flexibility

  • Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Parking provided at no cost during work hours

Membership in the American Alliance of Museums
