The ideal candidate is organized, decisive, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling time-sensitive issues in a fast-paced transportation environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own CoVar's carrier onboarding and verification standards.
  • Review carrier authority, insurance, safety history, operating history, contact information, and other risk indicators before approval.
  • Identify potential double brokering, identity theft, cargo theft, fraudulent dispatchers, and compromised carrier accounts
    .
  • Establish enhanced verification procedures for high-risk shipments, new carriers, and suspicious booking activity.
  • Maintain carrier compliance records and ensure documentation remains current.
  • Work with Carrier Sales and Operations to balance fraud prevention with the speed required to cover freight.
Claims Management
  • Manage freight claims from initial incident through resolution.
  • Coordinate documentation with customers, carriers, insurance companies, adjusters, warehouses, and internal teams.
  • Track cargo damage, shortages, rejected loads, accidents, and other claim-related incidents.
  • Maintain accurate claim files, supporting documentation, timelines, and recovery amounts.
  • Identify recurring claim trends and recommend operational changes to reduce future exposure.
  • Escalate significant losses or liability concerns to leadership.
  • Coordinate restacks, load shifts, rejected shipments, cross-docks, product recovery, and salvage when freight is damaged or becomes unsafe in transit.
  • Locate and coordinate warehouses, cross-docks, pallet providers, labor, tow/recovery services, and other vendors.
  • Work directly with drivers, carriers, customers, and Operations to resolve incidents quickly and minimize service disruption.
  • Review photos, load condition, product counts, pallet configurations, and documentation before approving recovery plans.
  • Track recovery expenses and determine responsibility for chargebacks when appropriate.
Compliance & Process Improvement
  • Maintain and improve CoVar's carrier compliance and claims procedures as the company grows.
  • Develop SOPs and escalation procedures for fraud, cargo claims, accidents, rejected loads, and recovery situations.
  • Train Carrier Sales and Operations employees on carrier verification and claim-prevention best practices.
  • Monitor compliance trends and provide leadership with reporting on claims, fraud attempts, carrier incidents, and recovery costs.
  • Partner with CoVar's insurance providers and internal leadership to ensure appropriate documentation and risk controls are maintained.
Qualifications
  • Transportation, freight brokerage, carrier compliance, claims, safety, or logistics experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of motor carrier authority, insurance, FMCSA records, and carrier onboarding.
  • Experience handling cargo claims, freight damage, or transportation incidents strongly preferred.
  • Ability to recognize carrier fraud and suspicious operating patterns.
  • Strong documentation, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with transportation management systems and carrier-vetting platforms preferred.
What Success Looks Like

The Compliance Manager will help Co Var
prevent bad carriers from getting on loads, reduce claim exposure, recover freight quickly when problems occur, and create scalable compliance processes that protect the company as we continue to grow.

This is a hands-on role. The right person will not simply document problems after they happen—they will build processes that prevent problems, control losses, and help Operations resolve incidents quickly when something goes wrong.
