POSITION CONCEPTThe Field Inspector – SPP is responsible for monitoring and evaluating new overhead and underground distribution construction services of outside contractors using a ZERO-accident philosophy, monitoring daily work activities to ensure contractors and subcontractors are supporting the overall project schedule. Verify distribution designs of overhead and underground construction work requests to ensure materials, drawings and methods of installation are accurate. Ensure the quality of all work performed while identifying critical construction items that may have potential impacting the work schedule.
Monitor the project for Safe Work Practices (SWP), work rules, and Contractor Safety Management Program (CSMP) compliance. Acts as the TEC subject matter expert on contractor construction related issues in relation to TEC general rules and specifications.
- Inspect and post-check overhead and underground distribution primary and secondary installations to ensure final as-builts reflect TEC's approved general rules and specifications. 50%
- Monitor all assigned projects for Safe Work Practices (SWP) and Contractor Safety Management Program (CSMP) compliance. Monitor and ensure that contractors’ work is done in a safe and cost-effective manner. 30%
- Inspect ongoing work activities to confirm contractor performance to project plans, specifications, and monitor/enforce compliance to all regulatory requirements. Acts as the liaison for SPP Field Construction Supervisors to make distribution construction decisions of scope changes in any variations of TEC General Rules and Specifications. Maintain records of contractor performance against project schedules and Tampa Electric construction specifications. Update the Quality Assurance and applicable safety databases with findings used to support contractual decisions.
10% - Assist with resolving customer issues of access and site restoration with contractors and act as liaison for any disputes with the contractor and company to the customer. 10%
Key Internal: Interfaces with Contracting Partners, Engineers, Planning Groups, and Managers. Communicates with Contractor Supervisors, Field Construction Supervisors, Construction Superintendents, and Operations Manager.
Key External: Customers, governmental agencies, developers, engineering firms, and contractors.
Qualifications EducationRequired: High School diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/CertificationsRequired: Valid Florida driver's license and safe driving record.
Related ExperienceRequired: 5 years of operations experience in progressively more complex assignments, with at least 2 years underground and overhead distribution construction or design experience.
An Associate degree and 2 years of operations experience may be considered.
