Scalehouse Specialist

Techstaff has an immediate assignment available for a customer service-oriented employee to work as a Scalehouse Specialist at the City of Tampa McKay Bay Scalehouse. The specialist is responsible for vehicle weighing, waste acceptability checks, financial transactions, customer service, and related operations at a municipal scalehouse, transfer stations, and waste-to-energy facility. This temporary assignment is expected to carry into next summer and is responsible for the following:

Position Overview:

Employees perform proper and efficient completion of scalehouse functions and customer account servicing. The role involves operating computerized scales, assessing charges, receiving payments, ensuring compliance with operating rules, and directing customers to the correct disposal location.

Key Duties:

• Operate a computerized municipal refuse scale to determine waste weight and assess charges
• Verify refuse compliance with operating rules and regulations
• Perform cashiering tasks, including counting cash receipts, balancing accounts, and preparing financial/operating reports.
• Maintain filing systems for disposal tickets and perform data entry into the online MSS system
• Provide customer service in person, by phone, and other communication methods
• Perform minor office equipment maintenance
• Communicate via radio with department staff and contractors
• Manually write scale tickets if the automated system is down
• Secure facility and equipment at end of shift

Skills & Requirements:

• Credit card transaction and customer service experience
• Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
