Open Rank - Trauma Network Medical Director. The Department of Surgery at USF is seeking an academic trauma surgeon to join the USF Trauma Network. The successful candidate must be BC/BE, licensed in the State of Florida and eligible to work in the United States. This is a full‑time 12‑month salaried faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
USF is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.
Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent. The candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
Certified (or eligible for certification according to current requirements) by the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in Surgery, with Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care. Current as an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor. Demonstrated proficiency in trauma surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery; competency in administration, finance, and community relations; commitment to teaching healthcare professionals.
Must meet university criteria for the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

ResponsibilitiesResponsible (with authority) for all aspects of the Trauma Program at the Facility—including trauma call panel privileges, treatment protocols and guidelines, service policies, education community outreach, hospital executive interface, and performance improvement; promotes multidisciplinary approach to care of injured, critically ill, and emergency surgical patients; leads trauma education at facility.
The Trauma Medical Director is responsible for ensuring the trauma program meets quality, performance, and accreditation standards while coordinating multidisciplinary care.
Academic ExpectationsResponsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher‑level administrator of a state university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or statewide committees.
