Title:

Lower School Music Teacher

Position Focus

The Lower School Music and Choir Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an engaging, developmentally appropriate music curriculum for students in grades PK through
6. This role includes instruction in general music, vocal music, choir, basic music theory, rhythm, movement, recorder, and introductory instrumental concepts. The teacher fosters a joyful, creative, and Christ-centered learning environment that nurtures musical skills, collaboration, and spiritual growth.

Spiritual
  • Be a role model in attitude, speech, and action and walk daily with Jesus Christ.
  • Motivate others to accept God’s gift of salvation and grow in their faith.
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration.
  • Lead others to a realization of their worth in Christ and cultivate their growth in Christ‑like character.
  • Subscribe to and promote the statement of faith.
  • All staff are ministers of Christ.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
  • Develop and maintain a general music curriculum map for PK through 6th.
  • Plan and implement lesson plans with a Biblical worldview that align with state standards.
  • Teach general music concepts such as pitch, rhythm, dynamics, melody, harmony, form, and music literacy.
  • Instruct students in vocal technique, group singing, and age‑appropriate choir skills.
  • Teach recorder and basic instrumental skills as part of the music curriculum.
  • Introduce students to music history, composers, worship music, and diverse musical styles in an age‑appropriate manner.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the developmental, academic, and spiritual needs of all learners.
Assessment & Classroom Management
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative methods.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and participation.
  • Establish and sustain a positive, orderly, and spiritually nurturing classroom environment that supports learning and respect.
Choir & Performance Responsibilities
  • Prepare students for school programs, performances, chapels, worship services, and special events.
  • Organize and direct lower school choir performances throughout the school year.
  • Help students develop confidence, teamwork, and responsibility through performance opportunities.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to support cross‑curricular connections where appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, upcoming performances, and classroom activities.
  • Supervise Fine Arts assistant and delegate responsibilities to ensure instructional goals of the music program.
  • Work cooperatively with administration and colleagues to support the school’s mission and vision.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Organize, maintain, and inventory music materials, instruments, and equipment.
  • Stay informed of current music education trends, best practices, and worship music resources.
  • Participate in staff devotions, faculty meetings, professional development, school chapels, and school‑sponsored events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by administration in support of the school program.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in music education or a related field.
  • State teaching certification.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • A growing and maturing relationship with Jesus Christ; active membership in a Bible‑believing church.
