Job DescriptionSummary:
The Substitute, Head Start Aide will assist the classroom teacher in the overall operation and activities of Head Start in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.
- Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Physical presence is part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance.
- Support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan.
- Engage in civility, respect, and professionalism.
- Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.
- Assist in implementing the lesson plan.
- Report to the assigned class in the locations and at the times designated.
- Assist with maintaining order in the classroom.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Protect students while using materials, equipment, and facilities with appropriate precautions.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and school board policies.
- Establish and maintain positive, professional communication among students, staff, and parents as applicable.
- Perform light custodial duties related to safety and hygiene in the classroom and other environments accessed by students.
- Monitor student behavior using positive behavior supports and interventions in the classroom, lunchroom, on school grounds, and at off‑campus activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Responsibilities and tasks may change as determined by the needs of the district.

Experience, Certificates, and SkillsExperience:
One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in early childhood and bilingual preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Completion of Head Start Orientation.
Language
Skills:
Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Mathematical
Skills:
Adds and subtracts two-digit numbers, multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s, uses American money and weight, volume, and distance units.
Reasoning Ability:
Applies understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Computer
Skills:
Microsoft Office.
