TITLE : Nutrition Education Coordinator

REPORTS TO : CNC Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring Manager

POSITION SUMMARY : The Nutrition Education Coordinator will be a key member of the Children’s Nutrition Connection (CNC) team, specifically assigned to the CFM Nutrition Education team. This role will focus on the Cooking with Kids and Cooking with Childhood Heroes programs. These programs specifically support Child Care Centers under CFM’s sponsorship of the Children’s Nutrition Program (CCFP). These centers are located in the 5 counties that make up Tampa Bay.

The primary objective of the Nutrition Education Coordinator is to provide hands on training to sponsored centers and menu reviews to insure compliant food service. Using the USDA Dozen Ways to Be Healthy and My Plate curriculum, the Nutrition Education Coordinator engages staff involved in the CCFP and children in their care in interactive Cooking with Kids food experiences and education sessions.

Key responsibilities include focusing on sponsored CCFP sites with the greatest need for training and support, providing Menu reviews and modifications within the meal pattern, scaffolding the Cooking with kids classes so that staff members can learn to provide the lessons ongoing. The Coordinator will work closely with the Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Monitoring Manager and the Technical Assistance and Monitoring team to develop and grow the CCFP program and identify training opportunities to improve the quality and compliance of the program.

Other duties include recruiting centers for the Child Care Food Program, evaluating program success, and working with community partners to expand food access in at-risk neighborhoods through the CCFP. This role will involve active participation in community recruitment events to represent Cornerstone’s food access and nutrition education initiatives, particularly in food desert areas where access to healthy food and education may be limited.

The Nutrition Education Coordinator will serve as an integral part of a cohesive Children’s Nutrition Connection (CNC) team that proactively supports all aspects of Nutrition Education Programming. This role involves coordinating and scheduling all Nutrition Education Programming at Cornerstone, supervising a team of volunteer educators and interns, and assisting with program development and implementation within budget constraints. Responsibilities include curating culturally receptive nutrition materials, supporting the Child Care Food Program (CCFP), evaluating program outcomes, collaborating with community partners, and participating in community events to promote the CCFP.

This role emphasizes targeting at-risk communities and food desert neighborhoods within Cornerstone’s CCFP sponsorship area, where access to nutrition food and education may be limited.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates and schedules all Meal Service Technical Assistance and Cooking with Kids Programming at Cornerstone, both out in the field and at Cornerstone’s Community Health Hub
  • Supervises Nutrition Education team including Nutrition Educators, interns, and volunteers as assigned and available
  • Works in collaboration with the FRESH
    EATS Coordinator to ensure classes and events at Cornerstone’s Community Health Hub are scheduled and delivered effectively to our sponsored CCFP centers that visit the Health Hub and Garden
  • Responsible for implementing programs within budget and practicing financial stewardship
  • Provide support to the CCFP program through developing and updating cycle menus; providing technical assistance and training to centers on compliant menus, meal patterns, quality meal service and food preparation, health and sanitation, and special diets

ABILITIES AND

EXPERIENCE:

  • AA or BA in a health/nutrition related field
  • Previous experience in administering nutrition education or cooking classes (preferred)
  • Serve Safe Certified (preferred)
  • Agreement with the mission, vision, and guiding values of the organization
  • Ability to lift 20+ pounds, bend, squat, and work in both an outdoor and indoor setting
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood (bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and data tracking systems
  • Ability to provide private transportation to complete work assignments (mileage reimbursement available)
  • Ability to work a schedule that will include an occasional weekend event
