Physical Education Teacher Education Program
The Physical Education Teacher Education program prepares aspiring educators to teach about the importance of developmentally appropriate movement concepts and skills for students in K-12 schools. We work to promote community‑engaged educators who can meet the needs of a variety of students. Our program focuses on local and global needs and partners with communities to work toward access for all.
Required Qualifications- An earned doctorate degree in physical education (or closely related field) by the time of appointment.
- Experience teaching college‑level physical education courses (or courses that are in a closely related field).
- At least 18 graduate hours of physical education coursework, sufficient for accreditation purposes.
- Evidence of excellence and effectiveness in teaching at the college level, commensurate with experience.
- Experience teaching youth in K‑12 school settings or equivalent.
- Interest/specialization in any of the following: elementary or secondary physical education, adapted physical education/physical activity, athletic coaching, etc.
- Willingness to contribute to school‑based partnership efforts.
- Evidence of supervision/coaching of pre‑service or in‑service teachers.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching online, commensurate with experience.
- Expertise in the use of technology for teaching and learning, including developing advanced pedagogies for teaching online courses.
- Evidence of working as a contributing member of a collaborative group.
- Evidence of a commitment to student success.

ResponsibilitiesWe invite candidates to apply for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction position on the Tampa campus to teach physical education preparation courses and support pre‑service teachers in becoming leaders in physical education beginning in August of 2026.
- Teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in physical education, athletic coaching, and related minors.
- Supporting high‑quality practicum and clinical experiences for teacher candidates.
- Serving as the course lead for undergraduate courses.
- Supporting curriculum development for physical education and/or athletic coaching courses.
