Position SummaryThis position provides career planning and job placement services for students enrolled in post‑secondary adult vocational (PSAV) certificate training programs such as automotive collision and repair, automotive service technology, medium and heavy duty diesel engines, heavy construction equipment, welding, fire‑fighting and law enforcement.
Job Duties- Selects, administers and interprets different types of formal and informal student assessments commonly used in career counseling, including questionnaires, checklists, interviews and inventories to measure ability, skills, personality traits, work style, values and interests.
- Develops individualized career plans and pathways based on assessment results and student’s personal goals.
- Coordinates the placement of students in an appropriate post‑secondary adult vocational certificate training program based on assessment results and the student’s personal goals.
- Provides individual and group career counseling, coaching, consultation and performance improvement services to students.
- Develops internship and job placement opportunities for students and alumni by contacting employers throughout Hillsborough County.
- Organizes workshops, job fairs and career events.
- Assists, counsels and instructs students and alumni in all matters relating to employment to include internship and job search strategies, interviewing skills, resume and cover letter writing.
- Serves as liaison with members of the community and with other College departments.
- Collects data and prepares statistical reports to determine the impact of the career development and job placement activities and strategies on students. Statistical analysis may require frequency distributions, tables, graphs, and calculating indices of central tendency, variability, reliability coefficients, and standard deviations.
- Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.
The position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of prior‑related work experience. If substituting experience for education, the position requires at least a High School diploma or GED equivalent. Technical certification and/or licensure may also be required for some programs.
Preferred QualificationsA National Certified Counselor (NCC), National Certified School Counselor or equivalent certification and/or state licensure is preferred.
Background CheckThe selected candidate identified for this position will be required to successfully complete a Level II criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting.
