Job Functions

The Early Childhood On-Call Staff will assist the Early Childhood Teacher and School Age Programs/ Kid Zone holiday tent in performing classroom duties.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom support and substitute teaching when a teacher is absent, demonstrating flexibility by moving between classrooms as needed.
  • Use knowledge of best practices and CREATE policies to assist the Early Childhood Teacher in planning, administering, and assessing a developmentally appropriate curriculum, ensuring the care, safety, and welfare of children and their families.
  • Assist in writing and submitting weekly lesson plans and maintaining detailed records on children, including anecdotal and health records, while keeping the Director informed of special needs or unusual behaviors.
  • Maintain the safety, security, and cleanliness of all classroom equipment and adhere to licensing guidelines and all organizational policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training as required by state childcare licensing and support the team in various tasks, attending all team meetings.
  • Serve as a role model for exemplary behavior for children, volunteers, and parents.
  • Maintain daily and weekly administrative tasks such as sign‑in/out logs, attendance records, incident reports, and permission slips.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule to ensure program needs are met and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all policies of Metropolitan Ministries.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Education and Experience

    High school diploma. 40 hr. DCF training or in the process of completion. Experience working with children preferred. Extensive exposure to youth and teen programs highly desirable. Heart for ministry and comfort working with poor and homeless families required. Bilingual (Spanish – English) is a plus.

    Skills Requirements

    Requires understanding of poverty, a high degree of maturity, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate with low socio-economic and diverse parents and clients in a professional and diplomatic manner. Ability to verbally communicate and resolve conflicts between pre‑school age children. Ability to plan, organize and conduct early childhood education programs. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    Ability to use a computer and related software. Ability to administer CPR and First Aid to children and implement safety procedures. Ability to work effectively with others within a multi-disciplinary team framework including staff and volunteers. Ability to supervise and direct volunteers. Demonstrates maturity and sensitivity to issues of faith, culture and other sources of diversity.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Hearing and speaking ability, which allows for effective oral communication of information. Physical, emotional and spiritual stamina to handle job‑related issues and stress.

    Other

    Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States and pass applicable pre‑employment background screening procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
