Position Overview:
As part of the Freedom Boat Club training team, the Instructor trains and onboards club members through virtual classroom and on‑the‑water training. The role is part‑time with flexible hours, requiring weekday and weekend availability.
Essential Functions:
- Greet and welcome new members.
- Organize and conduct classroom and on‑water training covering skills, policy, and compliance.
- Identify and recommend additional training as needed.
- Record training certifications in the reservation system.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uniform.
- Handle minor member mishaps or incidents while remaining friendly.
- Provide a red‑carpet level of service to members and guests.
- Engage potential members about the club.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- US Coast Guard captain’s license.
- Pass a background check and drug screen.
- Valid driver's license with good driving record.
- Boating experience on or around boats.
- Vision adequate to read or manipulate handheld computer tablets.
- Electronics knowledge and ability to use smartphones/tablets.
- Maintain a calm, positive attitude during periods of high activity.
- Cooperative, team‑oriented work style with supervisors and colleagues.
- Highly effective communication skills and friendly customer service.
- Professional communication abilities with co‑workers, corporate staff, and members.
- Self‑starter capable of working unsupervised.
- High attention to detail.
- Adhere to all safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous instructor experience.
Working Conditions:
- Movement between docks and boats; unstable and wet surfaces.
- Large drops (~4ft) to vessels and back to dock.
- Extended standing periods.
- Exposure to outside elements (heat, rain, cold, extreme weather).
- Marina setting with fixed or floating docks.
- Safe movement on, off, and in vessels under varying tide and weather conditions.
Compensation: $20/hour.
