Position Details

The University of Tampa, a medium sized, comprehensive, private university is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Office of Student Affairs. As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, this position will uphold the values of data-informed practice, sense of belonging, overall well-being, professional staff development, retention and persistence, and Spartan Ready® culture.

The work of this position will intentionally align with strategic focus areas to advance the mission and vision of Student Affairs which results in student learning and support for students to grow as global citizens. The Fraternity and Sorority Life community at The University of Tampa consists of 25+ social fraternities and sororities, representing three (3) different councils. Under the direction of the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, this position will assist in the development of co-curricular activities for fraternities and sororities that are grounded in student learning outcomes.

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an advisor for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) and as the primary advisor for one or more of the FSL governing councils (Unified Greek Council, Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council) and their executive boards as assigned by the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life;
  • Provide support and general advisement to fraternities and sororities, and chapter leadership;
  • Train and supervise FSL Student Interns;
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, local advisory leadership, alumni, and parents;
  • Oversee the coordination of community-wide events such as Greek Week, National Hazing Prevention Week, Greeks Give Back and more;
  • Aid with daily operation and administration of Fraternity and Sorority Life including area goals, membership management, and communication;
  • Create and implement workshops and trainings for advisors;
  • Coordinate the formal and informal recruitment processes with the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life for all social Greek-letter organizations;
  • Co-facilitate expansion process and establishment of new social Greek-letter organizations;
  • Assist the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life with the development and facilitation of leadership retreats and officer transition programs for the fraternity and sorority community;
  • Co-facilitate and maintain online alcohol and drugs prevention program for FSL chapters wanting to host events with alcohol;
  • Collaborate with the Office of Community Engagement and other campus partners on campus-wide programs ;
  • Build a positive rapport with students, staff, and faculty by maintaining availability, visibility, and a genuine, concerned attitude;
  • Participate and represent the Fraternity and Sorority Life in the Division of Student Affairs, University, and professional activities;
  • Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
  • Supports the development and design of fraternity and sorority marketing, web pages, and social media accounts, ensuring information is current, accurate, and meets universal design accessibility standards.
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned;
  • Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
  • One (1) year of relevant student affairs experience including graduate assistantship experience.
  • Previous Fraternity and Sorority Life experience, including leadership and/or advisory role with fraternity or sorority organization is preferred.
  • Strong and broad knowledge of student development theory.
  • Demonstrated proactive leadership in development of student affairs programs and collaborative relationships.
  • Flexible hours required to support evening and weekend events.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage time effectively in a generalist, learning-centered environment.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
  • Work Schedule

    Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Summer:
    Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Flexible hours required to support evening and weekend events.
