Position

Description:

Under the direct supervision of a classroom teacher, the para educator supports students to participate in their educational program.

• Assist in the implementation of the Norwalk Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives.
• Follow Norwalk school policy to ensure student safety.
• Follow the teacher's oral or written directions with accuracy.
• Assist the teacher with the implementation of classroom instructional goals and Section 504 plans.
• Assist students with classwork individually or in small groups.
• Assist the teacher in maintaining student records of attendance.
• Assist the teacher with documentation of student progress.
• Assist the teacher with the preparation and distribution of lesson plan materials.
• Encourage students to interact appropriately with peers.
• Assist students during recess, breaks, emergency drills, assemblies, on school buses, and field trips.
• Assist and support students in using computers, iPads, or other media to access the curriculum.
• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.

• Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

• Attend meetings and professional development activities as recommended by the teacher, supervisor, or Principal.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Special Education, or Supervisor.

• High school diploma or equivalency and Para Pro Certificate.
• Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
• Associate's Degree in education or related field, or Para Pro Certificate, or two (2) years of college.
• Two (2) years of experience working with children or young adults in a school setting, preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish, preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Norwalk Board of Education may find appropriate.

Days:
Monday – Friday (27.5 hours weekly, schedule determined by Principal).
