Position: Community Engagement Instructor-(SNL)- Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Straz Center is looking for Community Engagement Instructor to join our team. The Community Engagement Instructor is a practicing artist and educator who possesses a strong commitment to working with children, teens, adults, and educators. This position may teach in all aspects of the Arts Education Partnership Program, Professional Development Workshops, Day @ Straz Field Trip Program and other instructional based programming as assigned.

Located in downtown Tampa, Straz Center offers flexible hours, event-based schedules including evenings and weekends, and a team-based work environment.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the planning and execution of educational arts programming appropriate for specific age groups. (Pre-K through Adult).
  • Highly skilled in one or more of the following fine arts disciplines: dance, vocal performance, instrument performance, musical theater, acting or technical theater production.
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.
  • Experienced at guiding students towards a culminating presentation.
  • Provides each student with an evaluation (either verbal or written).
  • Submits course descriptions as requested.
  • Attends professional development sessions and staff meetings.
  • Works with the Community Partnership Coordinator on program site scheduling and curriculum.
  • Provides group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
  • Carries out administrative responsibilities.
  • Participates in pre-planning and post-planning meetings.
  • Acts as an ambassador and serves as a community representative to speak on behalf of the Community Partnership Program at community functions as requested.

  • Must be bilingual. (English/Spanish)
  • Must be willing and available to work on-site.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule which may include nights and weekends.
  • Professional artist working within field of expertise within the last five years.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated practice of effective classroom management strategies to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Effective prioritization and multitasking skills.
  • Collaborative decision-making skills in a team environment.
  • The ability to interpret various styles of music.
  • Must have reliable transportation, be able to drive a car and have appropriate auto insurance coverage, and a valid Florida Driver's license.
Education And Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Dance, Theater Performance, Theater Arts or related field is preferred.
  • Applicable certification or significant training and/or performance experience required.
