OverviewColliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Technician II based in our Tampa, FL office. As a senior‑level SUE technician, you will lead field operations, mapping and protecting unseen subsurface utility systems that keep our cities moving. You will leverage cutting‑edge technology—including electromagnetic line locators, ground‑penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey equipment and vacuum excavation—to mitigate risks in new infrastructure design and construction.
Your work will support engineers and designers in making smarter, safer decisions on transportation corridors, urban developments, renewable energy, oil‑and‑gas, electric transmission, distribution and more.
- Work collaboratively with a diverse team to tackle a wide variety of projects.
- Read and interpret utility records, as‑built and survey drawings, and highway design plans.
- Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies.
- Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities.
- Apply proper maintenance‑of‑traffic protocols.
- Call “One‑Call” tickets.
- Coordinate survey work in relation to SUE activities.
- Supervise the activities of field crew.
- Train junior crew members.
- Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field and communicate/coordinate with utility companies.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using electromagnetic and geophysical designating technologies.
- Experience with vacuum excavation preferred.
- Quickly grasp new technologies.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
- High level of reading comprehension and communication skills.
- Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Occasional travel out of town and overtime work.
- Walk long distances of several miles daily.
- Lifting heavy equipment up to 80 lbs.
- Good driving skills and a clean driving record.
- Prioritize the safety of yourself and others.
- Potential to work nights/weekends.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for job‑related communications.
Requires a pre‑employment drug screen and ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
