Job Description
The Membrane Biotechnology Lab (Civil & Environmental Engineering) at the University of South Florida (Tampa, FL) is seeking two highly-motivated postdocs to work on a multi-institution project on innovative onsite wastewater solutions for island communities.
Description:
The postdocs will participate in the research, development, certification, pilot demonstration, and commercialization of innovative onsite wastewater treatment and recycling systems. Responsibilities may include:
- conducting laboratory experiments to develop new processes for small systems (e.g., BNR, M , MB , membrane separation, sorption, ion exchange, advanced oxidation);
- designing, fabricating, and operating field pilot systems;
- performing computer modeling of treatment processes;
- incorporating AI/ML to improve system monitoring, operation and reliability;
- contributing to product development and commercialization;
- leading public outreach efforts and developing innovative education content;
- writing reports/journal papers and presenting at conferences;
- managing the laboratory; and
- mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
Qualifications:
The candidate should:
- have obtained a Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering or a closely-related field;
- demonstrate the ability to design, fabricate, operate, sample and analyze data from bench and/or pilot-scale reactors;
- be able to troubleshoot analytical instrumentation and develop new methods;
- have the ability to serve as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students in and out of the lab;
- have strong writing skills, as evidenced by a sound publication record;
- be able to work collaboratively as part of a large team in a complex project;
- be able to work independently and adhere to tight deadlines; and
- be willing to assist the PI with proposal/report writing, publishing, teaching, as well as administrative and project management duties.
