This position is responsible for designing and developing Fire Alarm systems to detect and notify occupants in the event of a fire. Your responsibilities include performing research and analysis, utilizing equipment data and product knowledge, producing 2D drawings & schematics, and coordinating with engineers, project managers, and facilitating work permits. Additionally, you may design upgrades, create project templates & standards, attend code and manufacturer training, research new fire codes, and implement efficiencies in drafting quality.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Follow all OSHA standards and laws, and incorporate safety standards into designs.
- Submit installation drawings for approval to AHJ.
- Attend regular development meetings.
- Address limitations of technologies and materials involved in the design & CAD process.
- Incorporate feedback into BIM models and system designs.
- Make revisions to drawings, plans, & models as requested.
- Keep up to date on all modern advancements in manufacturer’s equipment, building code changes, and software technologies.
- Pursue ongoing education in the Fire Safety field.
- Apply and submit drawings for approval to AHJ (installation permits).
- Design Fire and Alarm System drawings, as‑built drawings, system calculations, and riser diagrams.
- Re‑create new MEP and structural drawings under existing conditions for design coordination.
- Read and interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
- Provide accurate electrical schematics per client conditions and analyze and track technical specifications including dimensions, arrangements, and installation procedures.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- At least 2 years of experience utilizing AutoCAD software.
- Minimum 2 years working in a professional environment.
- An abundance of patience to see a complicated project to the end.
- Ability to think in a three‑dimensional manner.
- 2‑year degree in a related field (preferred).
- Bachelor's degree or certifications (preferred).
- Electrical construction industry knowledge (preferred).
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
- Assist project managers with permits, system changes/modifications, and tracking project changes and revisions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
