Traffic Signal Timing Engineer
Location:
Tampa, FL or Bradenton, FL area.
- Develop, integrate, and fine‑tune signal timing changes.
- Provide supervision and direction for signal operational modifications.
- Conduct field reviews when necessary to evaluate and resolve traffic operation issues.
- Ensure signal operation modifications are signed, sealed, and properly documented per client policies.
- Prepare system performance reports.
- Assist the signal timing team with signal/system retiming efforts.
- Report results and effects of signal retiming efforts.
- Actively monitor signal systems and other arterial ITS infrastructure, analyze traffic data, and recommend actions to improve operations.
- Provide guidance for development, update, and maintenance of signal timing changes.
- Support CV/AV technology implementation and monitor/operate CV/AV related applications and devices.
- Recommend and implement signal phasing changes to address recurring and non‑recurring congestion.
- Facilitate traffic operations by guiding arterial operation decisions, implementing special event response plans, and generating severe event/incident response reports.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 7+ years of post‑education engineering experience with prior traffic design experience.
- Professional Engineering license in the state of Florida.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Traffic Signal Operation, signal retiming, and Traffic Signal Central Systems.
- Knowledge of traffic signal systems, traffic controller operation, Signal Central Systems, ITS, and traffic engineering principles.
- Experience with traffic signal analysis programs such as SYNCHRO, HCS, etc.
- Knowledge of DOT advisory circulars and procedures.
- Proficient in traffic engineering principles, practices, processes, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and communication systems.
- Working knowledge of roadway transportation construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization skills in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members while adhering to QA/QC.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to analyze data and reach effective, economical, and logical solutions.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
- Willingness to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project requirements.
- Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Experience managing small to mid‑size projects.
- 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
