Position ConceptThis position is for an Engineer I level to Senior engineer with power plant experience and/or heavy industrial experience. The engineer provides engineering and technical support to improve reliability and availability of generating units while reducing overall costs in assigned systems and equipment. The engineer reports to the Maintenance Manager at Polk Power Station. This position serves as a focal point for specific engineering skills and is able to analyze and resolve complex issues.
In addition, the engineer participates in industry seminars and workshops to continue technical expertise and develop new ways of treating both old and new problems. The responsibilities rotate periodically within the Polk facility or to another company location to support personal development and broader company bench strength.
- Identify, evaluate, conclude, or recommend improvements to design, construction, operation, and maintenance of assigned systems and equipment as requested.
- Support Asset Management through Critical System Review, RCA, Alarm Management, Operational Start‑up Review, Process Safety Review and Mechanical Integrity Program, Risk Management and Loss Control.
- Lead station on Loss Control, Asset Risk Management, management of change (MOC) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Develop, recommend, and maintain specifications for maintenance, repair, and supply of assigned equipment keeping records up‑to‑date.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operating upsets and recommend changes to minimize reoccurrence, lead root cause investigations.
- Provide technical support to plant personnel for design, maintenance, repair, and operation of assigned equipment.
- Maintain engineering initiated testing, inspection, and repair history records for assigned equipment.
- Develop and assist employees through advisory and educational activities to improve their abilities to design, construct, operate, and maintain assigned equipment.
- Lead Capital and O&M improvement projects; maintain a 5‑year capital plan for assigned areas.
- Review engineering designs and specifications for new plant equipment and special projects.
- Participate in projects to produce a cost‑effective, on‑schedule, quality product or end result.
- Improve expertise in functional area through participation in industrial, technical, and professional organizations and forums.
- Provide support with drawing and document updates.
Required: Bachelor of Engineering degree from an accredited college.
ExperienceRequired:
- Engineer I:
Minimum 18 months of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities in the area of power plant engineering, or 12 months with FE. - Engineer II:
Minimum 4 years of engineering experience related to the duties and responsibilities. - Engineer III:
Minimum 8 years of engineering experience related to the duties and responsibilities.
Required: Working knowledge of power plant design, basic plant processes, and chemical reactions. Strong attention to detail, good planning skills, good written and verbal communication, ability to work in a team environment, and heightened safety awareness.
Must be able to pass a pulmonary function test and negative‑pressure respirator fit test. Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE) on the job.
