Storm Duty Requirements

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to customers. Compensation will be provided in accordance with company rules and procedures.

Position Concept

The DCS Specialist or Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining the station’s plant Distributed Control System (DCS) hardware and software. Responsibilities include ensuring DCS system reliability, integrity, and health by performing daily backups of DCS software and logic changes, implementing new DCS logic, modifying existing logic, replacing and installing hardware, coordinating with IT for cybersecurity compliance, and administering domains and users within the control networks.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES Big Bend & Bayside Plant
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant Distributed Control System (DCS), GE Mark VI and PLC control systems.
  • Implement, modify, and document plant communications for the Cyber Security plan.
  • Support equipment modifications by adding, changing, or removing DCS logic and controls.
  • Maintain plant third‑party software applications for process monitoring (DBDOC, GRITS, Asset Centre, RSLogix
    5000).
  • Assist TECO Energy Information & Security department with all plant control systems (GE & ABB) for NERC and Emera CSF compliance.
  • Provide daily technical support, direction, and training to process teams and maintenance staff.
  • Produce and maintain accurate system records, including logic diagrams, P&s, and alarm management.
  • Investigate and analyze new products and procedures and direct personnel in their use; contact equipment manufacturers to resolve problems.
  • Coordinate technical support and quality control for work performed by outside contractors and plant personnel.
  • Assist in the station budgeting process and provide annual forecasts of expected contractor manpower levels and costs; develop maintenance budgets to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Follow all company and plant guidelines, including NERC, safety, and environmental processes.
Solar Energy Center
  • Ensure Solar Digital Process Control/Computer systems are maintained and running properly; initiate repairs and manage maintenance.
  • Provide day‑to‑day operational and maintenance support to local personnel for all Solar Process Digital Control/Computer systems and subsystems, with training and spare‑parts review.
  • Maintain Solar DCS subsystems (Ignition Control System, Canary Historian, Solar Plant Master Controllers) and ensure they run properly.
  • Support upgrades and new installations, document installations, review point alarm priorities, maintain system documentation, and handle software backups.
  • Maintain personal safety awareness: attend safety training, perform H.E.C. procedure reviews, housekeeping reviews, and PPE reviews.
  • Ongoing education of state‑of‑the‑art equipment and operating procedures to optimize station controls.
  • Provide technical support and direction in Instrument & Controls areas, including routine and emergency maintenance, problem resolution, root‑cause analysis, and documentation for new installations or upgrades.
  • Implement and maintain Solar Cybersecurity initiatives, including NERC CIP standards, software backup subsystems, anti‑virus subsystems, and public domain subsystems with password administration.
Education
  • Maximum of a High School Diploma or GED for DCS Maint Specialist.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science for DCS Engineer.
Licenses / Certifications
  • Preferred: ISA Instrumentation & Controls Certification
  • Preferred: DCS training, preferably ABB/Bailey
Experience Required
  • Maint Specialist – Minimum 5 years of controls experience in a process plant control environment, including at least 2 years developing, changing, maintaining, and troubleshooting DCS logic; maintaining, replacing, and repairing DCS hardware; installing and maintaining third‑party software applications.
