Position summary: JMT is looking for a Construction Engineering Senior Inspector to assist engineers with the completion of Water/Wastewater and Utility construction projects in Tampa, FL.
Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.
Essential functions and responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections of water/wastewater, stormwater, pump stations, utilities and related facilities construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans and codes - to include water and sewer utilities
- Conduct regular inspections of roadway infrastructure including earthwork, asphalt, concrete, drainage, flatwork, etc. to verify compliance with approved plans and contract documents
- Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests and change orders) as needed on site and in office
- Ensure that construction workmanship and materials adhere to established industry standards & meet project specifications
- Accurately document all construction inspection activities by creating daily reports & maintaining organized, detailed, and up to date field files
- Oversee and coordinate material testing activities to ensure materials used meet project specifications
- Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation
- Participate in close out activities, including preparation of deficiency lists & final inspection reports
- Communicate effectively & collaboratively with clients, contractors, sub‑contractors, and project teams including other disciplines, such as cost estimators, designers, and other engineers
- Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues
- Operate and have the ability to upload, download & manage files in a Project Management Information System, PMIS, i.e. Procore, eBuilder etc.
- Provide input and participate in client, contractor and staff progress meetings
- Gather & maintain record documents
- Makes field notes & computations
- Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub‑contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries
- Manage subordinate field staff & support office engineering staff
Nonessential functions and responsibilities

- Strong Computer proficiency
- Strong in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong written & verbal communication skills
- Must successfully complete & pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Preferred Skills
- Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role
- High school degree/equivalent or better
- 8+ years of related experience on field projects.
- Strong understanding of municipal specifications, governmental agencies (FDOT) specifications, details, and practices
- Must be able to read plans & specifications
- Strong understanding of construction site safety practices
- Willing to travel within the state of FL as needed
- Client requested certifications
Preferred Experience
- Experience and understanding of water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, general underground utility construction and rehabilitation works.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, & lifting & carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, & dry/arid conditions.
