Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment.

Position Summary

The Co‑op student will work with the Operations Engineer on distribution system protection, protection coordination, power quality, and reliability. They will investigate reliability referrals, develop action plans to remedy issues, create work requests to implement proposed solutions, and respond to customers once issues have been resolved.

Accountabilities
  • Create and/or process work requests in work management software.
  • Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine actual or proposed field measurements.
  • Model proposed designs in the appropriate software to meet customer needs and ensure all results follow respective regulatory requirements.
  • Produce construction prints for field construction of proposed designs and attend weekly work scheduling meetings.

Education & Certification
  • The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university or college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • To qualify as a co‑op student, enrollment in the university’s co‑op program is a must.

Working Conditions
  • Mostly in a normal office environment, a successful candidate will visit the field approximately weekly. This will include riding in a company vehicle on‑road and off‑road, walking on uneven surfaces, and entering substations.
