Mechanical Engineer/Designer
Located in Tampa, FL (Onsite). This position is not a remote or hybrid position. This position is onsite at our Springfield, VA office.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of electro‑mechanical equipment. The candidate will work directly with the design team and manufacturing vendor. Responsibilities include designing, troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving challenges related to product development, including root cause analysis, working with suppliers, in‑house support personnel, and improving designs from concept to production. The candidate will also maintain and update drawings and Bill of Materials and provide test support.
Roles and Responsibilities- Design systems and integrate the multiple systems using Solid Works from initial concept stage through production launch.
- Generate and provide analysis of FEA studies in Solid Works.
- Generate and analyze drawings from parts/assemblies IAW ASME 14.100 and MIL‑STD‑31000.
- Assist in production problem solving by interfacing with the manufacturing team to find creative solutions.
- Communicate and collaborate with team members and represent the company with customers and suppliers.
- 4‑year Mechanical Engineering degree with 1‑5+ years of hands‑on experience, OR
- 2‑year technical college degree/military experience with 5+ years of mechanical and design/drawing experience.
- Experience designing mechanical systems and power generation and distribution systems, particularly medium and low voltage switch gear distribution systems.
- Electrical/engine‑driven systems integration.
- Knowledge of engineering drawing practices IAW ASME Y14, including Y14.5 and Y14.100.
- Sheet Metal/Structural fabrication and weldments.
- Enclosure design with thermal analysis.
- Solid Works and 2D CAD, and the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem‑solving abilities.
- Must be eligible to receive U.S. Security Clearance.
- Must have ability and some flexibility to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
