OverviewVHB is expanding in its southeastern region and is seeking a Structural Engineer to join a successful, award‑winning firm. The role focuses on model‑based bridge design of transportation projects across Florida, Georgia, and the east coast of the U.S., and includes mentoring the structural team.
Responsibilities- Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
- Provide technical support and mentorship to structural engineering staff
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
- Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
- Provide project management support
- Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews
- Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality
- Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
- Comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing
- Experience leading and mentoring junior staff
- Model‑based design experience
- Project management skills
- 3-5 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred
- EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
- Project experience with FDOT preferred
- Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents, and developing contract plans in conformity with AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities, counties, and other state DOTs
- Strong familiarity with structural engineering software such as Mathcad, AASHTOWare, FB‑Multi Pier, Midas Civil, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, Merlin DASH, and FDOT structures design programs
- Model‑based design experience is a strong plus:
- Bentley Open Bridge and Open Roads
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
