Consultant Structural Engineer – Tampa, FL

We are recruiting a Consultant Structural Engineer to join our Property and Buildings Team in Tampa, FL. The role involves providing technical assistance and guidance on due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and construction of building and infrastructure projects across public and private sectors.

• Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, utility information, geotechnical data, and other sources.
• Conduct professional structural engineering work, research, inspections, and site condition assessments to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
• Develop construction plans, specifications, and advanced modeling techniques for safety, functionality, and future‑ready solutions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—engineers, architects, planners, and scientists—to execute projects, establish reference points, select materials, calculate costs, and ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory documentation.
• Verify site characteristics to secure structural soundness against environmental and human loads.
• Create data visualizations, reports, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for analysis and presentations.
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with scoping and development of medium‑sized projects and provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research findings and recommend improvements or risk mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with data integrity, documentation, training, monitoring systems, and retention requirements.
• Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
• Stay current with the latest structural engineering techniques and industry practices.
• Collaborate on improvement projects at federal, state, regional, local, and private levels.
• Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 3 to 5 years of post‑education experience in structural engineering.
• Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, design/build processes, and application to project work.
• Experience with design and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Working knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction codes and regulations.
• Strong technical computation skills and ability to interpret plans and specifications.
• Project management experience with small to mid‑level projects, tracking hours and expenses.
• Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations in construction and design.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
• Excellent self‑leadership, attention to detail, and multi‑tasking abilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Leadership skills to guide junior team members while adhering to QA/QC.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and discipline‑specific design software (e.g., RAM Concept, ETABS).
• Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills for data analysis and solution development.
• Assertive direction of subcontractors and field personnel to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Track record of workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
• Flexible schedule to meet project requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required.

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Professional licensure or certification.
