Position DetailsPosition Summary The Project Engineer II is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of complex engineering projects from conception to completion, including design, development, testing, implementation, and providing direction to a team of engineers. They will serve as the primary point of contact for all external customer technical matters and will lead technical update meetings with internal and external customers. They will be delegated, as needed, to schedule design reviews, ensure Engineering Change Requests and Notices are worked, and update project plans.
Must be capable of doing some design engineering work as well.
Project Engineer II Activities
- Customer engagement (internal and external customers)
- Written and verbal communication internally and externally
- Create, complete, and manage New Product Development project schedules (Gantt charts)
- Resource & Milestone planning
- Support Senior Director, Chief Engineer and Program Managers in tracking budgets and forecast to complete (on time, on budget)
- Engineering Change Request and Notice (ECR/ECN) coordination and some processing
- Risk Management, matrix, mitigation
- Manage multiple projects concurrently
- Primary contact for design engineering for internal cross-functional meetings
- Communication with external customers to cover control of order changes technically; assurance that test and quality standards are achieved; interface with the customer in drawing and document information exchanges; review of contract specifications and communication of the requirements
- Supports updates to department metrics as assigned
- Assist the development of project engineering and management processes
- Experienced in a manufacturing environment with at least moderate understanding of manufacturing processes, design engineering best practices, logistics, and leadership skills that favor positive motivation
- Limited Design Engineering work as assigned, including technical papers, calculations and analysis, and models/drawings depending on need and current skillset. May also provide technical guidance for the preparations of technical proposals
- The Project Engineer II can be a technical leader on a New Development Project, working with the design engineers conducting the detailed execution and in constant coordination and communication with the Senior Director of Engineering
- All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong proactive communication with management on task or project progress, challenges, solutions, and requests for support
- Self‑starter, organized, thorough and meticulous, able to work under pressure to ensure quality and delivery
- Skilled at project engineering with interpersonal skills – PMBOK techniques a plus
- Knowledge and understanding of standard manufacturing concepts, practices, and procedures
- Resourceful and well organized
- Ability to lead a New Product Development project and effectively work in a cross‑functional team
- Technical writing – procedures, results, as assigned
- Dedicated to high degree of accuracy
- Ability to perform in an ambiguous environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Access)
- Previous experience with Integrated Project Teams is a plus
- Valve design familiarity a plus, but manufacturing environment experience required
Education
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, with at least two years’ relevant experience. Valve, regulator, fluid mechanics/control related coursework/education will be additional qualification, will consider work experience in lieu of degree.
- High School/GED – Minimum Education Required
- PMP Certification a plus, but must have working knowledge of PMBOK at minimum.
