Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
As part of the BOS contract supporting the Department of the Air Force, 6th Engineer Squadron at Mac Dill Air Force Base, Florida, we deliver comprehensive civil engineering services that directly support mission readiness and operational excellence. Our mission is to sustain safe, efficient, and resilient installation infrastructure that enables the Air Force to execute its global mission.
The Electrical Engineer serves as a technical expert responsible for the design, analysis, and execution of electrical systems supporting building, infrastructure, and mission‑critical projects. This role develops and reviews electrical designs including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and communications systems while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and federal design criteria. The Electrical Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, government clients, and contractors to deliver high‑quality, constructible solutions.
They perform quality control reviews, support project planning and execution, and contribute to risk identification and mitigation while managing multiple priorities across all phases of projects from pre‑construction through warranty, ensuring alignment with mission objectives, contract requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Research, design, and evaluate electrical systems and components for building, industrial, infrastructure, and mission‑critical projects.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing technical guidance on power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, and IT systems.
- Collaborate with project teams, government clients, and contractors to develop and execute facility designs.
- Perform quality control reviews and ensure quality assurance across all project phases.
- Manage multiple priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively to team success.
- Design electrical systems and components, including low‑ to high‑voltage power distribution, substations, standby and backup generation, interior/exterior lighting, access control, security, and fire alarm systems.
- Perform electrical engineering calculations and analyses, including load studies, short circuit analysis, coordination studies, and arc flash evaluations.
- Develop lighting designs, including photometric analysis for interior, exterior, and specialized applications (e.g., airfield or mission‑critical environments).
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, and proposals that are complete, biddable, and constructable, including supporting documentation (e.g., plans, schematics, load calculations), while ensuring alignment with project scope, budget, schedule, and delivery timelines.
- Review cost estimates and technical submittals for completeness, accuracy, and constructability.
- Develop technical reports, studies, and project correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA, IBC, UFC, and UFGS requirements.
- Review permitting requirements and engineering standards to support design approval and permitting applications.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and CPM schedules.
- Provide technical input to studies, design assessments, and engineering solutions to meet client and mission needs.
- Conduct site investigations and evaluate existing electrical systems to identify deficiencies, repair needs, and lifecycle requirements.
- Support project delivery by coordinating scope, schedule, and budget with project managers and senior team members.
- Coordinate designs with engineers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure integration, constructability, and mission alignment.
- Maintain continuous communication with facility users, leadership, and stakeholders regarding project schedules, changes, risks, and inspections.
- Perform quality reviews and ensure continuous quality assurance throughout all project phases.
- Identify and mitigate project risks and support overall project execution.
