Associate Civil Engineer – Mine Waste East Team
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Civil Engineer for the Mine Waste East Team in Florida. This individual would be involved in projects with our US Mine Waste Team and be a part of a growing organization that is uniquely positioned to solve our client’s most challenging projects. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, water resources, and geotechnical projects.
Responsibilities- Work within our Mine Waste team on civil, water, and geotechnical engineering projects for the mining industry
- Collect, identify, and compile environmental data from samples of water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys
- Assist with surface water management analysis and facility design
- Perform water resources engineering work and assist with related investigations
- Assisting with the preparation of project design packages including technical drawings, specifications, project schedules, and cost estimates
- Assist in engineering tasks such as geotechnical field investigation, site and material characterization, and basic geotechnical and civil design
- Working on domestic and international assignments
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work
- Research environmental databases regarding historical property land uses
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to prevent, control, restore, clean‑up, or address environmental issues or problems
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources or Geotechnical engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or closely related discipline
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post‑education experience in relevant fields
- Engineer in Training Certification preferred
- Knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work‑related issues
- Knowledge of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Erosion and Sediment Control, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
- Knowledge of civil and geotechnical design principles
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience
- Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions
- Capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
- Ability to work schedules is conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements
- Master’s degree in engineering
- Experience in executing small to mid‑size projects
