Key Role

HDR is currently looking for a statewide Local Government Planning Practice Leader to complement our growing Transportation Planning Business Class. We are a premier transportation consultancy known for delivering custom solutions to challenging projects. Our transportation planners design for all modes of transportation (auto, truck, bus, rail, walk, bike, air, water, and emerging modes), considering users of all ages and abilities while enhancing economic prosperity, improving environmental quality, and fostering partnerships with stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for statewide development, coordination, monitoring, and improvement of staff competencies when working with local governments to meet client needs and market drivers.
  • Collaborate with marketing staff, project managers, and leadership to elevate the local government planning practice and develop staff experience related to urban, regional, and strategic planning initiatives for municipalities and counties.
  • Work with staff, client managers, and other practice leaders to develop skills and client relationships related to planning, design, and public engagement.
  • Drive open communication with Practice Group members regarding current and projected production needs; collaborate with areas to influence staffing and expertise levels.
  • Identify market opportunities in coordination with area leadership and develop winning pursuit strategies; assist with shortlist interviews and presentations.
  • Oversee delivery of project services and deliverables to meet client expectations.
  • Maintain standards for quality and consistency of service brand.
  • Maintain qualification packages and staff skills matrix for project pursuits; assist with marketing materials including proposals.
  • Lead workshare communications that result in technical excellence and enhanced utilization.
  • Advocate for professional development of staff and development of production tools, including best practices, technical policies and procedures, papers and presentations, credentialing, recognition of technical achievement, and automation tools.
  • Serve as a project manager for local government contracts and deliver quality work on time, meeting or exceeding client expectations.
  • Develop client relationships in coordination with leadership and other local government planning staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional registration such as AICP or PE preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with local government planning projects and programs.
  • Experience in development and management of diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of local government planning processes, applicable laws, and requirements.
  • Well-developed analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Active participation in HDR's employee-owned culture is a must.
