Job DescriptionJSG is actively recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer for our client in Tampa, Florida. This is a permanent position with an organization known for reliability, technical excellence, and investment in its people. We are seeking a Senior Engineer I – Electrical Substation to provide engineering support and analytical services for the design, specification, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of substation systems, structures, and components.
This role requires strong engineering judgment and the ability to work with limited supervision on both routine and complex operational, maintenance, and business issues. You'll lead and collaborate with teams of field employees, technicians, and engineers, and present technical findings to management and industry professionals. Coordinate and support project planning, development, engineering, construction, and closeout activities. Provide technical direction to lower-level engineers and oversight of contractors.
Independently evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Interpret contract requirements for substation equipment, engineering, and construction services. Perform engineering calculations and studies to support project scope. Analyze and recommend solutions for operational, maintenance, and business issues (compliance, regulatory, finance, risk). Prepare and deliver technical reports, investigative findings, and recommendations. Design and specify substation materials, equipment, and monitoring systems;
oversee installation and maintenance. Advise on technical issues across teams and functional areas. Lead multidisciplinary project teams through design, engineering, and construction of transmission substations. Perform compliance-related duties as designated, including maintaining audit-ready documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum 6 years of related professional engineering experience. Demonstrated experience with specifications, codes, standards, and regulations (IEEE, NESC, NERC, OSHA, etc.). Ability to read electrical schematics and knowledge of substation devices. Knowledge of 3-phase AC systems and utility DC systems. Familiarity with substation equipment: transformers, breakers, switches, reclosers, metal-clad switch gear.
Experience with electrical calculations (AC/DC station service sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill). Ability to investigate failures, gather information, and determine root cause under pressure. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred (a Master's degree or PE registration may substitute for 1 year of experience). Technical
