Project Engineer, Systems Engineer

The Project Engineer (PE) leads technical and engineering aspects of assigned projects, managing multidisciplinary teams, interfacing with Program Managers, customers, and subcontractors, and ensuring successful project completion.

Technical Leadership & System Integration

• Serve as the program’s technical authority, responsible for overall technical design, system architecture, and hardware/software integration.
• Review, approve, and provide technical direction on requirements, specifications, designs, test plans, and technical milestones.
• Identify and resolve hardware/software integration issues.
• Oversee engineering release processes to maintain technical integrity and configuration control.
• Ensure final delivered products represent the target aircraft platform and meet contractual and technical requirements.

Program Execution & Engineering Coordination

• Coordinate and direct engineering activities across training device programs in a matrixed organization.
• Identify technical risks, integration challenges, and resource constraints, recommending solutions.
• Communicate technical status, schedule impacts, and risk mitigation strategies to Program Management and stakeholders.
• Provide engineering support during manufacturing, integration, test, and acceptance phases.
• Participate as presenter or technical reviewer in internal and external program reviews.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Build and support high‑performing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to engineers supporting assigned programs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other departments to support program objectives.
• Lead engineering coordination in a matrix environment with shared functional resources.

Customer Engagement & Business Development

• Act as the primary technical representative during in‑plant and on‑site customer acceptance activities.
• Interface directly with customers, subcontractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
• Support new business development and proposal efforts by contributing technical expertise.
• May serve as a technical proposal lead on assigned pursuits.
• Represent ASI engineering at stakeholder meetings and technical forums as needed.

Provide technical leadership and task direction to engineering personnel within a matrixed organization. May support performance feedback and technical evaluations, but does not have direct hire/fire authority.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 7 years’ engineering experience, including at least 5 years’ developing complex hardware/software systems (required) and/or 3 years’ working on flight‑based training/simulation devices (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years’ direct experience as a Project Engineer in flight‑based training/simulation systems (preferred).
• Experience leading and managing engineering teams (required).
• Experience working with customers and product managers to translate needs into technical requirements (required).
• Strong background in software development (preferred).
• Experience with simulator design, development, integration, and testing (preferred).
• Experience with flight simulation industry standards and regulatory requirements (preferred).
