Our client in Tampa is seeking a detail‑driven Staff/Cost Accountant to support their manufacturing operations by ensuring accurate product costing, evaluating production performance, and providing financial insight that helps drive efficiency and profitability. This position plays a key role in monitoring inventory accuracy, reviewing cost drivers, and supporting both operational and financial leadership with timely analysis and reporting.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update standard cost data for materials, labor, and overhead
- Review and investigate production cost variances, including usage, efficiency, scrap, and overhead-related items
- Audit and reconcile inventory and Work‑In‑Process accounts
- Conduct cost rollups and validate bills of materials and routings
- Review production orders for accuracy and completeness and track overall cost performance
- Perform routine inventory reconciliations (monthly/quarterly/year-end)
- Support cycle counts and full physical inventory activities
- Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies and collaborate with operations to implement corrective actions
- Ensure accurate valuation of inventory across all production sites
- Prepare cost and margin analysis reports for leadership
- Support month‑end close, including journal entries, accruals, and cost allocations
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities related to manufacturing operations
- Track manufacturing KPIs and highlight areas for improvement
- Partner with production, engineering, and supply chain to improve cost accuracy and reduce waste
- Provide costing support for new products, design changes, and specialty projects
- Recommend process changes that enhance efficiency or reduce cost
- Maintain compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- 2–5+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting
- Hands‑on experience with ERP systems
- Strong understanding of standard costing principles and production workflows
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Able to communicate complex financial insights to non‑financial partners
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
