Benchmark International is looking for an experienced and driven Senior Associate to join our growing Middle Market Team (MMT) M&A team in Tampa, Florida. MMT is Benchmark International’s premier services team structured to work across industries on sell‑side M&A transactions ranging from $100M – $500M TEV. The Associate will collect, analyze, summarize, and discuss our clients’ most sensitive data and assist in preparing our clients to enter the mergers & acquisitions market.
Pulling key attributes from financial statements, contracts, and other corporate documents; the Associate will identify risks, value businesses, and set or adjust client expectations. The Associate will also help with various related activities such as deal analysis, working capital analysis, and other tasks needed to serve our clients.
- Support senior bankers in all aspects of M&A deal execution, including data gathering and analysis, marketing materials preparation, buyer list development, buyer outreach, data room management, and supporting all stages of diligence and transaction closing.
- Occasionally support senior bankers in origination activities including pitch presentation preparation, industry analysis, buyer research, and company strategic positioning analysis.
- Develop and maintain client relationships by communicating effectively to ensure expectations of both buyer and seller are met.
- Gather comprehensive information about the client’s business through multiple sources to ensure a thorough and accurate analysis for client promotion.
- Prepare and routinely update marketing materials, financial statements, and business intelligence reports focusing on the company’s strengths and opportunities.
- Analyze the client’s financial situation, including historical, current and expected future performance, and prepare financial statements.
- Develop relationships with the investment community, including private equity funds, family offices and corporate acquirers, and update marketing materials with current information.
- Ensure the CRM system is up to date with information about each client.
- Provide consultative guidance on accounting, financial, and valuation matters.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skills.
- Comply with all policies, practices, and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of middle‑market investment banking experience (typically a first‑year associate following an analyst or full analyst training program).
- Experience in M&A or leverage finance product team or coverage teams such as industrials, business services, consumer, or tech.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Proficient personal computer skills including email, recordkeeping, database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage a rigorous schedule of deadlines.
- Experience in professional business writing preferred, including writing business plans and information memoranda.
- Prioritization and organization skills.
- Proficiency in financial modeling and financial analysis in Excel; exceptional PowerPoint presentation skills.
- Proficiency using modern AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT).
- Commercial understanding and awareness of business and operations across various industries.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
- No personal history of enforcement actions by the Securities Exchange Commission, FINRA, or any state securities regulatory bodies.
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Finance, Marketing, or Accounting or an unrelated degree with significant work experience in these fields.
