Community Partnership Liaison

Salary $25.60 - $36.37/hour; $4,437.33 - $6,304.13/month; $53,248.00 - $75,649.60/year

Employees in this class perform work of average difficulty under the general supervision of the Community Partnership Coordinator under the Community Outreach Bureau. Employees may be assigned to one of two shifts comprising forty (40) hour per week, which might include weekends and holidays. General duties involve investigating complaints, conducting presentations, writing reports, and providing assistance to the public. Employees must exercise initiative and independent judgment when developing programs and resolving/referring complaints.

Work is reviewed through reports submitted, conferences, and observation of results accomplished.

• Respond to questions from community members about police department events, seek opinions on police practices, and identify community concerns.
• Maintain familiarity with crime trends and unique community issues in the assigned district.
• Host regularly scheduled monthly district meetings and attend a variety of community sponsored meetings throughout the assigned district.
• Visit with community members and local organizations to increase crime awareness, crime prevention, and personal safety while building relationships, trust, and legitimacy, especially with minority communities.
• Share crime prevention information in various settings, including presentations with residents, neighborhood watch groups, business owners, homeowner's associations, and other public gatherings.
• Deliver crime prevention literature at festivals and fairs, covering topics such as identification theft, spotting and reporting suspicious activity, self-defense, and protecting property.
• Examine complaints concerning Elderly Affairs offenses within the assigned district; act on referrals from officers, government agencies, and the community to refer elderly citizens to the appropriate social service agency for assistance; schedule and publicly announce programs in relation to Elderly Affairs and document the programs presented.
• Assist in organizing crime prevention groups in residential and business areas targeted for certain geographical locations within the district and maintain liaison with these and other interested community groups; act as liaison between community organizations and division personnel; assist in the formation of new community groups once the group has met established requirements.
• Plan and develop programs to educate citizens in the district on how to prevent crime and become victims; conduct crime prevention presentations within communities; inform citizens on how to report crime and other activities.
• Plan and develop strategies to encourage citizens to secure and identify their personal property to reduce theft likelihood or increase recovery chances.
• Maintain statistical information on presentations, citizen contacts, elderly affairs investigations, meetings attended, and other relevant data; prepare and submit monthly crime prevention activity reports and quarterly Community Assessment reports detailing current concerns, potential problems, recommended solutions, and actions taken.
• Make referrals to Code Enforcement and other entities when necessary.
• Perform related work as required.
