This position is located in the DEA, Tampa Field Division. This position(s) primary purpose is to serve as a Registration Program Specialist (RPS), which provides and serves as a key resource at the state and national levels in accordance with the states jurisdictions for all registration applicants authorized to manufacture, distribute, and prescribe controlled substances in accordance with the Controlled Substance Act (CSA).

Applicants applying for the GS
- 09 must meet one of the following requirements:

A. Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 (or equivalent), and your experience includes performing ALL of the tasks below as part of your regular duties:
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties:

  • preparing reports and correspondence
  • interpreting and advising on regulations, agency rules or standards
  • analyzing information
  • identifying and resolving issues or problems
  • Education:

    Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree or a LL.B or J.D. degree, if related

    OR

    Combination of

    Education and Experience:

    Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

    Applicants applying for the GS-11must meet one of the following requirements:

    A. Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 (or equivalent), and your experience includes performing ALL of the tasks below as part of your regular duties:
    Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
    Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties:

  • analyzing and retrieving criminal history reports from investigative databases
  • conducting presentations or training sessions
  • preparing written material to document research findings
  • advising current and potential diversion registration program registrants on federal, state, or local regulations
  • Education:

    Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related

    OR

    Combination of

    Education and Experience:

    Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
