Summary Position Highlights

The Digital Pathology Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and management of digital pathology systems within an oncology and academic healthcare and research setting. This role combines expertise in pathology, laboratory management, and technology to enhance diagnostic workflows, ensure the integrity of digital pathology images, and support pathologists and clinicians in delivering accurate diagnoses.

Responsibilities
  • Supervision/Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of digital pathology technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality work output.
  • System Management & Maintenance: Oversee the operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of digital pathology systems, include slide scanners, image management software, and related technologies. Ensure systems are property calibrated, functional, and regularly updated in compliance with industry standards and organizational protocols.
  • Quality Control & Assurance: Implement and monitor quality control procedures to ensure digital pathology images meet clinical standards for diagnostic accuracy. Conduct routine audits to assess the integrity and quality of digital images and assist in resolving any issues that arise.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with pathologists and other medical professionals to support the integration of digital pathology into clinical workflows.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory bodies, such as CAP (College of American Pathologists), CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Data Management & Security: Oversee the management, storage, and retrieval of digital pathology images and associated data, ensuring it is done in a secure and organized manner.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in digital pathology and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and workflow.
Credentials and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pathology, Laboratory Technology, Healthcare Administration, or related field of study.
  • Three years of experience in digital pathology, laboratory management, or a related area.
  • Strong knowledge of digital pathology platforms, slide scanning technologies, and image management systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory standards, including HIPAA, CAP, and CLIA.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Pathology, Laboratory Technology, Healthcare Administration, or related field of study.
  • Proficiency with image analysis software and digital pathology tools.
