Job Description

Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Tampa, FL
Monday to Friday, 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM, with rotational weekends
$10,000 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidate
Relocation assistance will be considered

Pay range: $34.00+ per hour. Employees may be eligible to receive a shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on the second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on the third shift. Additional details on shift differentials will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications.

Successful candidates may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures in the department.
  • Support the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
  • Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
  • Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STAT or critical results to clients.
  • Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates.
  • Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function.
  • Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with any investigation.
  • Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized report generation.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel, if needed.
  • Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
  • Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated.

Qualifications

Required Work Experience: One (1) year full‑time experience or training (high complexity testing) in a clinical laboratory setting.

Preferred Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience with most current year in present department.

Physical And Mental Requirements
  • Normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects: 1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; over 50 lb not to be lifted without assistance.
